A Reiki Treatment
During a reiki treatment the client remains fully clothed, shoes are removed. You will begin your treatment lying on your back and I usually cover you with a blanket. The treatment is carried out on a massage couch, although a chair may be sometimes used. There will be soft lighting with relaxing music playing in the background. The room may also be candle lit and may have natural incense burning to enhance the atmosphere.
Before I begin your treatment I will feel your energy field by scanning your body with my hands; I find this beneficial to the session as I can feel where there may be areas in your energy field which need healing. I use a series of hand positions with a very gentle but powerful and light touch. I start at your head, placing my hands on the body’s energy centres (usually known as chakras) and channelling energy to the areas that need it. I work my way down to the feet, I will then ask you to turn over and repeat the process again with you lying on your front.
When I have finished your healing session I will tell you and leave you for a few moments to come back to full awareness, I will then give you a glass of water and have a chat with you about what I may have observed during this session. You may also share your experience with me if you wish to do so.
Each Reiki session usually lasts for one hour. Some people feel a little ’spacey’ after a session, this is normal and it will pass. You can help your body with the healing process by drinking lots of water for the next 48 hours and carrying the positive energy with you after the session ends, try not to jump back in to a hectic lifestyle.
What will I feel or experience during a Reiki treatment?
Each reiki session is unique to you and no two sessions are the same. Usually when receiving reiki you will begin to feel very relaxed and you may even drift off to sleep! Many feel a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds them. You may feel many sensations such as heat, tingling, coldness or the energy moving around in your body. It is also possible to see clear images, places and people.
Reiki has a calming effect that is particularly effective in relieving stress. It is also possible for you to experience different emotions; you may laugh or even cry. Forgotten memories can be brought to the surface. If Reiki has triggered an emotional release due to some mental or emotional trauma this may cause tears, it is a sign that Reiki is healing an emotional issue and it is brought to surface because it needs to be released. Remember that all healing starts a process of release; this could be emotions or toxins along with any imbalances and blockages. Be kind to your body’s needs; resting when tired and drinking plenty of water will also help rebalance the energy and work with the body’s healing process. As your sessions progress you will soon begin to feel an inner calmness and an improvement in your energy levels. Whatever your experience it will be a positive one!
How many sessions will I need to have?
This is dependent on what the client’s needs are at the time. One single reiki session may make a difference for things like stress relief or minor pain. However a course of regular treatments, whether they are weekly, fortnightly or less often may be more effective if your problem is long standing. Usually after a course of treatment - which normally lasts 4-6 sessions - you will find yourself feeling less stressed with a calmer approach to life’s challenges.
